SUSPENSION OF SITTING OF COURTS<\/h5>

I append a determination of the Honourable The Chief Justice under Rule 62(1) and (2) of the Supreme Court Rules 1978. I am also directed by the Hon.Chief Justice to draw your attention to pare (3) of the said Rules which reads as follows:- “During the period of suspension of sitting of Court of First Instance the Judge of the Court shall, unless he has previously taken leave, be available at his station for the disposal of any urgent matters”.<\/p>

DETERMINATION UNDER RULE 62(1) AND (2) OF THE SUPREME COURT
RULES 1978 (SUSPENSION OF SITTINGS)<\/h5>

I hereby determine that:-<\/p>

1. The date for the commencement of the first period of suspension of sittings of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the Courts of First Instance in the year 2014 will be\u00a0Monday the 7th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2014<\/strong>.

The ordinary sittings of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal will be resumed on\u00a0Monday the 28th<\/sup>\u00a0April 2014<\/strong>.

The Ordinary sittings of the High Courts will be resumed on\u00a0Wednesday the<\/strong>\u00a023rd<\/sup>\u00a0April 2014<\/strong>.

The ordinary sittings of the other Courts of First Instance will be resumed on\u00a0Monday the 21st<\/sup>\u00a0April 2014<\/strong>.<\/p>

2. The date of the commencement of the second period of suspension of sittings of the Supreme court, the Court of Appeal and the Courts of First Instance in the year 2014 will be\u00a0Monday the<\/strong>\u00a011th<\/sup>\u00a0August 2014.<\/strong>

The ordinary sittings of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal will be resumed\u00a0Monday the<\/strong>\u00a025th<\/sup>\u00a0August 2014<\/strong>.

The Ordinary sittings of the High Courts will be resumed on Wednesday the\u00a020th<\/sup>\u00a0August 2014<\/strong>.

The ordinary sittings of the other Courts of First instance will be resumed on\u00a0Monday the 18th<\/sup>\u00a0August 2014<\/strong>.<\/p>

3. The date for the commencement of the third period of suspension of sittings of the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal and the Courts of First Instance in the year 2014 will be\u00a0Monday the 22nd\u00a0<\/sup>December 2014<\/strong>.

The ordinary sittings of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal will be resumed on\u00a0Monday the 12th<\/sup>\u00a0January 2015<\/strong>.

The ordinary sittings of the High Courts will be resumed on\u00a0Wednesday the 7th<\/sup>\u00a0January 2015<\/strong>.

The ordinary sittings of the other Courts of First Instance will be resumed on\u00a0Monday the 5th<\/sup>\u00a0January 2015.<\/strong><\/p>

If Poya day falls on;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

1. Monday the 12th January 2015,\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>the ordinary sittings of the Supreme Court and the Court Of Appeal will be resumed on\u00a0Tuesday the 13th January 2015.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

2. Wednesday the 7th January 2015<\/strong>, the ordinary sittings of the High Courts will be resumed on\u00a0Thursday the 08th January\u00a0 2015.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

3. Monday the 5th January 2015,\u00a0<\/strong>the ordinary sittings of the other courts of First Instance will be resumed on\u00a0Tuesday the 6th January 2015.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

In the event of\u00a0Tamil\u00a0 Thai Pongal Day\u00a0<\/strong>falls on\u00a0Tuesday the 13th January 2015,<\/strong>\u00a0the ordinary sittiings of the\u00a0Supreme Court and the Court Of Appeal will be resumed on Wednesday the 14th January 2015.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>
